Last week, actor Terry Crews made news - by publicly contradicting Gabrielle Union's claim of racism on the set of America's Got Talent. Terry, who also worked on the show, claimed that Gabby was either wrong or lying, and that there was no racism on the show.
Immediately after Terry made those comments, he was universally criticized by Black people across entertainment. They were furious that Terry would publicly bash Gabby - even before NBC Universal (the owner of America's GoT Talent) had the chance to conduct its own investigation of her claims.
Terry wrote: “I want you to know it was never my intention to invalidate your experience — but that is what I did. I apologize. You have been through a lot in this business, and with that, I empathize with the struggle toward fairness and equality in the workplace.”
He followed up with: “I hear you, I respect you and understand you. I am sorry, and I am here to support you. I spoke from my own personal point of view without first taking into consideration someone else’s experience.”
Terry went on to applaud Gabrielle and called her “a role model to the entire black community.”
He then wrote: “I informed @KevinHart4real a while back, he required 2 'acknowledge the discomfort of other individuals' Now, I have to do the very same thing. I wish to excuse the remarks I made. I recognize there are a great deal of Black women injured and pull down by what I stated and likewise by what I didn’t state.”
He likewise stated: “I allowed disrespectful comments directed at my family and me to cause me to react angrily instead of responding thoughtfully. This certainly caused more harm, and it is my hope that I can amend any pain I have caused to those who were hurt by my words.”
Gabrielle has not reacted to Terry’s apology, however her other half did. Dwyane went on Twitter and posted, “Someone, please take @terrycrews phone.”
And Terry's apology isn't going over well on Twitter, either. Here are just a few responses to Terry's letter to Gabby:
